COMPARING AUTHORS

The author, Richard Wright, and the author, Ralph Waldo Emerson, differ greatly in their personal lives, literary lives, and their literary selections. Through viewing these aspects of each author, I was able to see a distinct difference between them. Emerson and Wright came from different places, read different kinds of book, and had their own styles that were reflected through their literary selections.

First, Emerson and Wright differed greatly in their personal lives. They were born in two different centuries. Emerson was born in the 1800's and Wright was born in the 1900's. These two authors also differed in where they were born. Emerson was born in Boston, but Wright was born in Mississippi. Their family sizes differed too. Emerson came from a large family, while Wright had only one sibling.

Next, Emerson and Wright differed greatly in their literary lives. Emerson and Wright were introduced to literature in different ways. Emerson was introduced to literature at age 14 in Harvard University. It was here that he read widely in philosophy and theology. Wright on the other hand was finally able to get access to books, after borrowing a white man's library card.

Lastly, there was a difference between Wright and Emerson in their literary selections. Wright wrote about American racism and exposed it to a large white audience. Emerson wrote about something entirely different. He wrote about land free from the old customs of Europe.

In conclusion, I was able to see how Emerson and Wright were so different from each other. No two authors are alike. I saw this through various examples, ranging from their personal lives, to their literary lives, and their literary selections.
