Many people have mulch on their lawns, and it has normally been thought of as a positive way to improve plants' root protection, keep them moist, and protects them. However mulch also does something else. Mulch brings in a large host of insects.

Yes, that's right. Mulch is like a supreme hotel to most bugs and pests. When mulch decays it produces bacteria, which draws in things such as pill bugs, sow bugs, millipedes, earwigs, mites and earthworms. They feed off these bacteria, and are harmless for the most part. But they in turn lure larger invertebrates like wolf spiders and centipedes.
