Golf is a sport that originated in Scotland around 1457. Ever since its conception it has been associated with the upper classes. It is a game that has roots in royalty. Golf was so popular just after it was first invented that a ban imposed by King James II was placed on it and soccer because the two newest things at the time were taking away from normal tasks such as training for war, which was frequent during the time period. The ban did little to stop the upper classes from partaking in their newest interest however, and it was even reported that King James himself took a trip out to the links once a week to play other nobles in a round or two (Fazio 146).
