I do not believe that evolution is random. I believe that there is always a reason why an organism evolved, even if it does seem like it is random. The misconception is that evolution means that life is changed by chance. Chance is a factor in evolution just because it is random which organism will actually evolve but the change itself is not random. Random mutation is the ultimate source of genetic variation, however natural selection, the process by which some variants survive and others do not, is not random.

For example horses have to move quickly to escape predators. But a horse that cannot move quickly will not have a chance to survive and therefore be weeded out of the horses evolutionary linage because it will not be able to reproduce.
