The education maintenance allowance is a new payment scheme that has been introduced by the government this year to help low-income families. The ema benefits school pupils who are aged 16 staying on at school to further their education. Ema gets paid directly into the pupil's bank account every 2 weeks if you stick to certain conditions.

To be able to apply for the Education maintenance allowance you have to have a family income of less that £30,00 a year if any more that that then you don't qualify for the payment.

School pupils who receive ema can get up to £30 a week depending on the family income, If the household income is less than £19,630 pupils are intituled to the full £30 a week, if the income is between £19,631 to £24,030 pupils will get £20 a week and if the family income is £24,031 to £30,000 pupils will receive £10 a week.
