British Health and Sanitation Reforms Influenced by Edwin Chadwick
Edwin Chadwick's discoveries on the state of British towns in the 19th Century, leading the way for public health and sanitation reforms throughout Britain, Europe and eventually the world. The sudden influx in population in the towns of Britain, prompted by the industrial revolution that added to unemployment, brought about a huge growth in disease. The various epidemics this caused assisted Chadwick in reaching new conclusions to the importance of public health and proper sanitation. Chadwick's discoveries and brief term as Sanitation Commissioner had little impact at the time. These discoveries however, helped pave the way for global health and sanitation reform to date.
