The History of Mt. Rushmore

Summary: Explores the history of Mt. Rushmore, the massive sculpture built into the Black Hills of South Dakota.
When you think of a sculpture you think of a three feet by 4 feet statue, but the faces on this statue alone stand 465 feet tall and 460 feet wide. This sculpture, Mt Rushmore, is one of the most amazing statues ever built. This Mountain was being carved to honor some of the important people in United States History. The Mountain is located in the Black Hills of South Dakota.

The person chosen for building this massive creation was an American Artist, Gutzon Borglum. Gutzon Borglum was born in1867. In 1884, when Gutzon was sixteen, the family moved to Los Angeles. His father, unhappy in California, soon returned to Nebraska, but Gutzon stayed behind. Borglum's major jump in life was when he painted a portrait of Abraham Lincoln and then a carving of Robert E.
