The first piece is a letter to be published in a Sunday newspaper supplement in Spain, since this would be an effective way of reaching a large audience. Items which appear in newspapers are usually given more intellectual credibility and are more respected than news items which appear in other media.

The purpose of this piece is to raise awareness by means of a narration with which the audience may feel identified. This justifies the lack of names. The writer also tries to justify why abuse takes place, gives advice and encourages action.

It is directed at a very general audience: it gives advice to women who suffer domestic violence, and it appeals directly to the government and those who know a victim.
