When you look at Egyptian, Greek and Roman figure art most people don't see that they are much alike. Once you hear some of the history you can see that they have many similarities. Even though there are similarities between these periods, they still are distinctly unique with their own ideas and guidelines.

The Egyptian figures can be divided into two groups, those done "pre-dynasty", or before the time of the Pharaohs and those done during the time of the dynasty. Figures done during the Pre-dynasty time follow no guidelines. Figures often depict figures with animal body parts, this is called anthropomorphises. During the Dynastic period of Egypt, the figure art followed many guidelines. Panels on burial chamber walls can be interpreted because of these many guidelines.
