There are many differences between historical and Romantic writing, such as their styles. In historical writing, the authors tend to use facts to describe something that happened in the past. Romantic writing consists of feelings. It uses imagination and is often very descriptive.

The topics used in historical writing usually describe government, slaves, travels, or other events in history. Also people like to write about religion or Native Americans. Romantic poets prefer to write about nature, death, and legends. Things like make-believe and tales are popular in this type of writing.

The setting for historical writing takes place back when there were slaves, Native Americans, and settlements. Writing of immigration and religion are also included. Most Romantic writing goes back describing the American Revolution and the times where people headed out towards the frontier.
