Essay

When reading this title, the sentence "It's a free world" springs to mind. Challenges are set for a reason: to overcome fears, to inspire, to reach sense of vocation, to make discoveries and to broaden people's minds. People such as Ellen McArthur, David Blaine and Christopher Columbus are just a few people who have set out a dream and fulfilled it. Personally, I believe this is a good thing and shows: courage, will power and self esteem. However other people on the opposing side would say its: pointless, fame-hungry and unrewarding.

Firstly, I would like to point out that the world would be a very dull place without the enthusiasm and energy from the people who take part in these difficult challenges. We need adventurous people in society to keep life interesting. Sometimes they break a world record or even make new discoveries, such as: Christopher Columbus. These points don't seem absurd or useless.

All though some people may argue that these challenges have no important cause, this is untrue. Often the funds raised from these challenges are given to charities and important causes. I don't view that as being "pointless" or "benefiting no-one"! These challenges can also be of benefit to some people by giving them inspiration or courage to fulfil their target or dream.

Individuals should be allowed to express themselves as they wish. They should be encouraged to do things they want to do. I think all challenges are worthwhile if the person who is doing it is committed and is doing it for reasons other than for fame. I think this because these days, fame is becoming like a drug, it's addictive and often harmful. Challenges that I would be interested in doing would be breaking a world record. I would like this because it is something to be proud of and something that will be remembered for a long time.

In conclusion, I believe that people should accept other people challenges. I also believe that people should act more positively to adventurous and inspirational minds. Therefore I do not agree with the opening statement to this essay. I think it's important not to quell on the spirit of adventure.
