Summary: Discusses the major themes portrayed in the film Pleasantville. Describes how the film makes the statement about society as we knew it and society as we know it.
Pleasantville is a film that we watched in class the revolves around a storyline that goes along a 90's view of "Back to the Future." Only this time, they put in some themes that are very powerful and relevant. The movie opens in the present day. Two teenagers (David-bud & Jennifer-Mary Sue) are whisked back in time to 1958 to the T.V. show Pleasantville. Much of the movie is set in Black & White. Using technology, colour is added to some of the movie, but not all, as the residents of Pleasantville are supposed to be Black, White and Grey until they are "saved." The movie touches on four main themes: Loss of innocence, Prejudice, Self Discovery, relationship, . With plenty of comedy and fun mixed in, there is no missing the fact that this movie is making a statement about society as we knew it and society as we know...
