Most authors such as Bernard Barton leave hidden messages in their writing that help you in life. The fantastic poem called, "Bruce and the spider," by Bernard Barton has left us a message to be patient and persistent. In this piece of literature Robert Bruce comes back from 6 battles that he had lost to England. After the battles he came back to his cottage and was resting when he saw a spider. The spider was trying to spin a web but it kept failing. It tried six times but always failed. Finally on the seventh try it was successful. Bruce learned from the spider that if you are patient and persistent you could achieve anything. Proof of the message can be found in specific lines of the poem, such as the fourth and fifth stanzas.
