From this poem many people can believe that life springs from death. In this poem there is basic contrast to let the reader know how the author feels and to get a point across or the lesson that he is trying to teach. An overall contrast is inside the classroom and outside in nature. While we are inside our learning capability is very high, but it can only go so far. While we are outside in nature our learning capability is so great because mother nature doesn't really have a set of rules to learning; she just throws stuff at you and expects you to figure it out. The teacher outside can teach you more then the teacher inside can teach you. "So never doubt that glooms turns into light as winter into April," is both a simile an a symbol. The author is comparing the transformation from gloom into light, and the transformation from winter into spring (April).That quote symbolizes life coming from death. Winter symbolizes death and spring symbolizes life being reborn. In the poem the author uses personification to try and relate characteristics to ourselves. "Unseen earth-embedded feet," is referring to the roots of the tree as feet which is what people have. Alliteration is also used in the poem to create a bond with the reader to get the point across; life comes from death. "Bloom breaks on the barren branches overnight," bloom symbolizes life being reborn, while the barren branches represents and empty soul waiting to be filled; so therefore that quote means life is being reborn into something empty. This whole poem is a symbol for life and death. More so that the main statement is that good things come out of death, as life comes form death. The author uses only these
seasons because usually winter means death, spring means youth or rebirth, fall means golden years or old age, and summer means adult hood. Since the theme is that life comes from death that author uses the two seasons winter and spring, death and rebirth.
