Properties of Water
A Water with its six properties is essential for life on Earth. Three of the important properties are: 1) water has a high heat capacity; 2) water has a high heat of vaporization; 3) water is cohesive and adhesive.
Water has a high heat capacity, which means it takes a large amount of heat to raise its temperature (requires 1 calorie of heat energy to raise the temperature of one gram of water 1 degree Celsius). This property is all due to the hydrogen bonds formed between two water molecules. First of all, a water molecule is created by the unequal sharing of electrons in a covalent bond, or a polar covalent bond. It's made up of an oxygen atom with a slightly negative charge and two hydrogen atoms with slightly positive charges. Because of this polarity, the oxygen atom of one water molecule will then bond with the hydrogen...
