Firstly, Amrita Pritan has used traditional Indian culture to portray the mother in the story. In the Indian culture the mother has a very authoritative role in her son's life, and so Manak has to do anything she wishes without questioning her. "Your mother's said nothing...", this shows us that both Guleri and Manak have to do whatever Manak's mother tells them to, emphasising the fact that the mother is basically running their lives for them. Also, the way that Manak's mother speaks furthermore shows us her very strict and powerful voice; "exclaimed" and "severely" showing that she is very dominant and requires knowing of everything Manak does.
