By the 1790's America was well on its way to becoming the great power that it is today. America did not become great easily, there where many bumps along the way. Such bumps in the beginning included the controversies that resulted from the Alien and Sedition Acts that were created in 1798 by the Federalist Party.

Immigration was on of the first issues that aroused from the acts. The Alien Act was responsible for this issue. A great number of people feared that immigration could be dangerous when people migrated in large groups. It was feared that they would settle together and thus keep all of their ways in culture and government (A).
