Esperanza has wavy and thick black hair. Dark lashes, and fair, cream skin. She has eyes shaped like fat brown almonds.In the beginning of the book, Esperanza comes off as a sweet young girl. However, once she makes the transition of being rich to poor, you realize how she's actually really spoiled. In a way, she may also be prejudiced against poorer people than her.

However, once she realizes life isn't like it used to be, she turns into a mature, appreciative grown up woman. She really stands for what people respect.

Esperanza Ortega is a young girl who seems to have everything she wants. People call her mi reina which in Spanish, means 'my queen' because she lives like one!
