Hitokiri: The Samurai in Japan

Summary: A history of the samurai in Japan. Fearless warriors who followed bushido and Zen Buddhism, the samurai never feared death of killing, but they were also honorable and peaceful. Some of the most powerful among the samurai were known as "Hitokiri" which means "Person Slayer" in English.
The Samurai

Samurai, the warriors of early Japan. They first were guards and policemen during late 8th century and early 9th under Emperor Kammu reign using katanas, spears and armor. Then became the army of Japan. They fearless warriors who followed bushido and Zen Buddhism. By the Tokugawa era, most samurai became involved in politics rather than warfare. Eventually the samurai started declining during the Meiji restoration and then defeated during 1867 during the war of Sekigahara. But some say they were defeated during the Satsuma Rebellion in the Battle of Shiroyama during 1877. The samurai were fierce warriors who didn't fear death or killing. But they were also honorable and respectful.
