Summary: Friendship between the women in the play Desdemona: a play about a handkerchief is something that is practically non-existent. The women in this play, through numerous different ways, prove that there is no friendship between women. Desdemona treats Emilia differently when others are around, while Emilia talks differently about Desdemona when she is not around.

Friendship between the women in the play Desdemona: a play about a handkerchief is something that is practically non-existent. When Emilia tells Bianca that "there's no such thin' as friendship between women" (245) she is exactly right, at least in reference to the women in this play. The women in this play are constantly talking about each other behind the other women's backs, the women are all using at least one of the other women in a way to better benefit themselves, and all of the women have or want to sleep with someone other than their husband of significant other.
