Summary: Can socialism be effectively combined with democracy to make a good government? The makeup of today's society, particularly the current decline of the working class, makes it difficult to answer the question in the affirmative.
George Lichtheim claimed that "One can have democracy without socialism and vice versa. Whether the two can be effectively combined is the prime question of our age." To what extent do you agree with the above statement"

This statement is asking whether socialism can be effectively combined with democracy to make a good government. For this question to be answered well I will need to outline the basic principles of socialism and democracy and then discuss whether or not they can be effectively combined.
