Whether it was ancient times or modern times, people were always fascinated by the Greek mythology. It consists of godly figures, resembling men and women that accomplish heroic feats, which created the backbone of their religion. At this time, the goddesses were altogether inferiors to the gods, but one goddess was the sole exception to the rule: Athena, goddess of wisdom and war (Hamilton 29). During an affair between Zeus and Metis, a child was conceived. Zeus, fearing she bore a child mightier than him, consumed her. Metis immediately began work on making a helmet and armor for her daughter. The hammering she made caused Zeus excruciating pain and Hephaestus cracked open Zeus's forehead ("Athena."). Athena sprang out of Zeus's head, fully grown and fully armed (West 153). This goddess redefined the meaning of hero. She kept her virginity in a world that knew no sin, nor the wrongdoings of...
