The Red Sox History of Bigotry

Summary: Argues that the Red Sox baseball team has been the most racist organization in baseball. References the Howard Bryant novel, Shut Out. Provides examples of institutional racism.
In the non-fiction novel Shut Out, by Howard Bryant, the opinion that the Red Sox are a franchise with a history of bigotry is clearly addressed. Until now the belief that the Red Sox are a racist franchise has never been addressed in this manner. Bryant points out that the Red Sox have passed up oppurtunities such as signing Jackie Robinson or Willie Mays and that management has been also affected by racism, but I believe that racism in the organization is now a thing of the past.

I thoroughly agree that the color of ones skin has affected the signing of players such as Jackie Robinson and Willie Mays. Jackie Robinson had his chance with the Red Sox when he worked out in front of owner Tom Yawkey and other members of Red Sox management in 1945.
