The Sino-Japanese War was essentially the prescient doom of China's four thousand year reign in the Asiatic region. This war paved the way for further Qing decline and proved the utter failure of self-strengthening in China. The Sino-Japanese War proved to be a major embarrassment to China as she was defeated very swiftly on land as well as at sea. This war had significant repercussions on China, Japan and the rest of the world. In the time following the Sino-Japanese War, the world saw an intensification of imperialism, which began the process whereby the foreign powers "partitioned China." Among other significant factors, the more important ones in the aftermath of the war were the oppression of Chinese industries, the rise of modern Japan, the reforms and political movements in China and an interesting turn in foreign relations.
