Political Correctness

Summary: Discusses the issue of political correctness. Analyzes if the practice encourages tolerance. Considers if directness is a better approach.
Political Correctness(PC) was introduced in the 1980s. PC was introduced in an effort to increase tolerance for a diversity of cultures, race, gender, ideology and alternate lifestyles. PC also tried to compel everyone to avoid using words and behaviors that discriminated or was offending to various groups of people.

I feel that political correctness is appropriate in this generation and it is good. It is a sort of paraphrasing, to substitute offensive words with milder ones that have the same meanings. The following are a few examples; "fat" is replaced with "differently sized" while "disabled" is replaced with "physically challenged."

Straight talk that is to the point nowadays can offend and insult people. With political correctness, we can do away with much of the negative effects. For example, domestic engineer is a more polite term for housewife. It also sounds nicer and does not make the person...
