Vincent Van Gogh was born on the 30 of March 1853 in the Netherlands, Groot Zundert. He began his life as an artist in 1880 and applied to study at Ecole des Beaux-art in Brussels but his application was never accepted. He continued to draw of his own accord taking examples from books and things around him.

He had a fair amount of bad luck and I think this shows through into his artwork, as he was quite depressed at times and also self hurtful.

The pictures I am writing about are dark and gloomy, and are obviously paintings of poverty stricken people.
