The Effect of Television Violence on Children

Summary: Editorial advocating banning television viewing by young children to reduce violent behavior.
Children should not be allowed to watch TV because it is TV that heightens their aggression over the years to come.

The American Academy of Pediatrics say that "we have an epidemic of violence in our country that seems to increase more and more everyday." Numerous studies done by AAP say that sixty one percent of all television programs contain a significant amount of violence. Out of these programs, children's programming has the most amount of violence. According to Dr. Peterson, a child psychologist from the AAP, early viewing of violent television sparks aggression at an early age, which grows like a conflagration in the years to come.

If TV is not banned from the reaches of our children, then this conflagration of violence will never be stopped.
