Summary: Essay discuses if the execution of the Rosenbergs was justified.
It has been a mystery among historians as to whether or not the United States was justified in executing Julius and Ethel Rosenberg. I believe the United States was justified in executing Julius Rosenberg but not Ethel Rosenberg. This is so because David Greenglass, Ethel's younger brother admitted to lying in court about his sister's involvement in the espionage that took place. McCarthyism was also to blame for Ethel's execution. It increased the American publics fear of the spread of Communism, so people easily jumped to conclusion. The Rosenbergs own son, Robert Meeropol, had reason enough to believe that his father was guilty of espionage but not his mother. Lastly, there was more key witness prosecuting against Julius Rosenberg than Ethel Rosenberg.
