To start off the montage that I created I opened a new 8X10 canvas. Then I used the gradient tool to make an interesting background. I wanted the background to look like a setting sun, so I chose three colors from the sky of the "Sunset Picture" with the eyedropper tool and set those colors as the colors for the radial gradient tool. I used the gaussian blur tool to make the sky blend nicely together.

After I finished the background, I chose the first layer of my project also from the "Sunset Picture." This layer was the water. I carefully selected the water using the polygonal lasso tool and then used the move tool to drag the selection onto my background. I had to resize the selection using the transform to scale tool. This ended my work on the first layer.
