On the 23rd of February 1917, International Women's Day, women workers in Russia started a protest whilst rallying to demand bread, peace and liberty. This was the first of many protests that took place in Russia in 1917, leading slowly to what we call the Russian Revolution. The question that many historians have carefully studied is "what caused the Russian revolution"." Some people argue that it was defeat in the First World War which was the real cause of the Russian Revolution. We're going to see that in fact, the First World War was only a trigger to the revolution, and that it had been inevitable considering the economic and political conditions in Russia and the time, and the earlier 1905 Revolution.
