Summary: This essay is about the genocide in Cambodia and the Civil War that caused it.
Throughout the history of the world, there have been many instances were evil forces have risen up against the ruling power of a country. These confrontations often very bloody result in the death of many innocent civilians as well as armed forces. In Cambodia, the struggle between two different types of government caused an armed uprising that resulted in the death of nearly two million citizens of this small country. (PPU)

The overthrow of the government combined with the subsequent genocide was devastating to the country of Cambodia and other countries in the region. In March 1970, in Cambodia, there was a coup d'etat that replaced communist Norodom Sihanouk with an anti-communist Lon Nol, leader of the Khmer Republic. This change of government created great civil unrest in this delicate region of the world, adding to the list of conflicts part of the Cold War.
