Objective:

The objective of this lab was to calculate the ratio of the copper sulfur compound to conclude whether the compound is made of copper I or II.

Procedure:

  1. A copper coil was twisted.
  2. The mass of the copper coil was found.
  3. The copper coil was placed in a crucible.
  4. A sulfer powder was added to the crucible to cover the copper coil.
  5. The cover was placed on the crucible.
  6. The Bunsen burner was lit.
  7. The covered crucible was placed on the triangle, on the ring stand, above the flame.
  8. The crucible was heated for about 10 minutes or until all the powder is gone.
  9. The crucible is allowed to cool.
  10. The coil is massed.
