My Response to "After the Sirens"

Summary: Essay gives my response to "After the Sirens" by Hugh Hood.
Recently in class we read a short story called "After the Sirens" by Hugh Hood. This short story was about a man, his wife and his newborn baby surviving a nuclear war. The radio announcer came on saying there was an air raid and they had fifteen minutes to take cover. The man quickly gathered food and wrapped everyone in layers of wool. At three in the morning they found they were the seventh, eighth and ninth survivors. There are many reasons for not wanting to survive a nuclear bomb, but there is one very big reason I would like to survive.

I would like to survive an air raid because I would like to be a part of the re-construction of society. If a lot of people were to die and everything was destroyed there would be a need to rebuild everything. We could make the world...
