Summary: Essay discusses the overall state of America during World War II.

With any war some change is expected to occur. The impact of change can be either beneficial or a set-back in the country's progress. In the case of the "Great War" or WWI, the impact on America was primarily negative with some momentarily good effects on commerce.

The role of the government radically changed to become more controlling over its people. An unfair draft took millions of men away from their homes to fight. The government issued sedition acts that took away a persons' first amendment right, of freedom of speech, by issuing fines or jail time to anyone that expressed a negative attitude toward the war effort. The U.S said that they were fighting the war in hope that they would save democracy in Europe, but meanwhile back home the government was taking democracy away from its people.
