Flags of various countries lined the walls of Gus Gym and music echoed throughout the room as people joined to see the Multi-Cultural Assembly. As the crowd took their seats, the assembly began with four Tam students talking about tolerance and diversity, and then the choir conducted by Spiro Tsingaris performed an Irish folk song entitled "Down by the Sally Garden."

"It's a very beautiful, romantic song about two lovers meeting in an Irish Garden," said freshman choir member Emilie Olson. When that finished, the audience applauded louder than usual, which continued throughout the assembly.

The song was followed by sophomore Adil Azim, who danced to an Indian hip-hop song, entertaining the audience thoroughly throughout his performance.

Also seniors Sarah Hess and Jessica Diaz implemented a combination of ballet, modern, and jazz dance to Cuban music.

The six boys who did break-dancing stole the show by doing some great moves such as the Turtle, were you move your hands around as your body spins in a circle, and the Icy-Ice, where their elbows were stuck to their sides and they spun on their heads and hands.

Another spectacular performance was that of the 35 Tam students who tap-danced to "Oye Como Va," by Santana. These dancers from Happy Feet Dance Company were well organized and did an outstanding job.

The Tam assembly also included a fashion parade, in which people from various nations showed off their cultural garments and accessories. Some of the cultures that were represented were Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Eritrean, Ghanan, Filipino, and many others.

One of the most important things to understand while watching assemblies like this is to remember that what might seem strange or odd to some might be special to others, but the crowd generally was in good spirits and cheered the participants well throughout the assembly.
