Teeuwissen, the poet talks about Christmas as a merry event The title "Keeping Christmas" makes this poem above the rest as the author does not only describe the main characteristics of Christmas but also provides us with a peek on the origin of Christmas which one can relate to the birth of Jesus.

In the first stanza, the poet gives us a vivid description and provides us with an imagery of what Christmas is like. Christmas has its characteristics as follows. Firstly, Christmas is the smell of evergreen as it has with it Christmas trees and a wonderful ambience of green around, especially so in Western countries.
