The Lord of the Rings in Hollywood: Bad for the Tolkien Legacy
The novel, The Lord of the Rings, is quite possibly the greatest of the twentieth century. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien's world of Middle-earth has spawned a group of followers that spans the entire world. The creation of the three motion picture films, The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King, all of which comprise The Lord of the Rings, have taken away the mystery of the story and have popularized the tale through Hollywood. Key literary countenances are left out, specific events altered, and characters are changed to fit the delineation of a Hollywood producer. Individual perceptions are mutated after seeing the novel portrayed on a screen. These films, though a great work of cinematography, set The Lord of the Rings in stone as a final depiction of the story encouraging people to accept it and not delve deeper into the fantasy...
