As a child my father's family had a pet dog. It was a pure-breed German Shepard and my grandfather had paid to have it trained as a police dog. When the dog was a year old, it innocently ventured onto a neighbors property. This neighbor in return attacked the dog with a baseball bat, beating the poor animal to death. My father, uncles, and aunts were devastated and my grandfather was upset because he had spent a great deal of money on this dog. But it was not worth it to bring the neighbor to court, because little would have been done. A year later this man was arrested for murdering his wife and children in cold blood.
