Throughout its history Cuba has been a land of political turmoil. The most recent political upheaval occurred in 1959, when Fidel Castro became "Comandete en Jefe"1 (Commander and Chief). Castro instituted a communist regime which has lead to many changes in Cuba, and as a result of the revolution, the culture of Cuba has been allowed to flourish. In spite of its frequently changing governments, Cuba is a popular vacation destination because of its unique location and great natural beauty.

Cuba's geography is very unique. The global address of Cuba is between twenty-five and twenty degrees north latitude, and between seventy-five and eighty-five degrees west longitude. Cuba is located just north of Jamaica and south of the Florida Keys, and sits in the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea.
