The movie Pleasantville faces some very realistic life issues, such as racism, fascism and ignorance.

It is a bit like `The Wizard of Oz', but with the main characters going from a coloured world to a black and white one, instead of the other way around.

The two main characters are David (played by Toby Maguire); whose name in Pleasantville is `Bud' and Jennifer (played by Reese Witherspoon) whose name is `Mary Sue'. Jennifer is one of the `cool people' at school and David is a nerd and has not got many friends.

Both of them are transported magically into a fifties TV series about a utopian world called Pleasantville. Pleasantville is a very innocent world with no one knowing any different than their daily rituals and with no one knowing of anywhere else other than Pleasantville.
