The Chinese made a great number of contributions to the United States when they emigrated over from Asia although they came for a number of different reasons. Some left China as either contract laborers or refugees. Others came to the United States for the opportunity to live in a country with a better economy.

When the Chinese came they contributed in many ways to America. They brought their language, culture, social institutions, and customs. Many of the foods that the Chinese ate have been introduced into American society. Such as soy sauce and ginger. They also brought different cooking techniques like stir frying and different Chinese utensils such as the wok and the cleaver. Although they brought their traditional types of clothing with them also very few people still wear traditional Chinese clothing today.

The Chinese immigrants were a great source of labor during the United States time...
