Summary: Discusses the issue of gun control in the Untied States and examines the assault weapons ban. Provides a history of the second amendment and details efforts by the National Rifle Association to stop any revisions to it.
The battle for Americans to bear arms freely, throughout the States, has been an issue for years. The second amendment placed into order in 1791 states "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." During 1791 America was young, weapons at this time were mainly single action muskets and intended to be used for hunting or protecting America incase of future attacks from British troops and native Indians. While the amendments were, being wrote, and discussed amongst congress and new world leaders, semi automatic weapons did not exist in America. In 1837 Georgia became the first state to try to impose a ban on hand guns. A court case Nunn V. State declared the ban a violation of citizens' second amendment right; the court denied the new law.
