Using the information provided with the task statement, a formula can be constructed using the tangent rule of a triangle. This equation can then be used to calculate the value of an angle when kicked from a certain distance along the perpendicular line.

Part one of task A required the calculation of the position which would maximize the kicking angle. The use of technology such as a computer and graphics calculator enabled the answer to be found easily, as opposed to the less accurate and efficient method of guess and check.
