ESPN the magazine starts the story July 25, 2003 Brandon Patch was on his way to play his final American Legion Baseball game against Montana's two time state champs Helena. Brandon was a husky first baseman and a pitcher not much for the specifics. He just loved to play the game of baseball. He was so excited to play against their rival the best team in the state. He said, "He was not going to lose." The score tied 3 to 3 in the bottom of the fifth inning with one out and a 1-1count, Quinn LeSage was at bat. Quinn was a big 6'5" first baseman with Division One potential. Brandon reared back and threw a fastball. Quinn swung and made contact perfectly on the sweet spot of his aluminum bat.
