In this paper, I will be discussing the use of cannabis by Jesus Christ, as confirmed by biblical scholars. Chris Bennett, author of Sex, Drugs, Violence, and the Bible, claims that "Jesus' ministry was fuelled by mind-altering substances, that he may have used cannabis-based oils to heal... diseases and that his very name - Christ - derives from being anointed with cannabis-enriched oil" (Ruck, 2003). This statement is surprisingly rational; drugs have been used over the centuries by practically all religions. Why not Christianity? (Ruck, 2003).

As stated in Exodus 30: 22-23, the ancient formula for this holy anointing oil contained more than nine pounds of flowering cannabis tops along with other herbs and spices that were extracted into a hind olive oil. In Hebrew, these flowering cannabis tops are called "kaneh-bosm." (Cannabis Culture, 2003).

The Greek translation of the word "Christ" (Hebrew: "Messiah") means "The Anointed" in English. Jesus was recognized...
