Weakness of the Articles of Confederation

The Constitution of 1789 superseded the Articles and built a stronger democratic society the government would need to be more powerful and centralized. Due to the fact that the Articles were the first governing document in the United States there was a large opportunity for improvement. "From its very beginning, it has been subjected to stormy controversies"(HistoryChannel.com). The Articles of Confederation was a weak document because it established a loose Confederation of the states, limited the power of Congress, gave each state only one vote and made it almost impossible to pass amendments.
