The story of 'The Secret History' is told retrospectively through the eyes of a twenty-year-old college student, Richard Papen. Dropping out of medicine and always fighting with his parents, he transferred to a College in Vermont, living off financial aid. Once there, he was accepted into an elite Classics and Greek class, consisting of only five other students and an intelligent, though slightly eccentric, teacher. As he had joined their tight-knit group late, he felt like an outsider. Just as he began to feel accepted, something happened to the rest of the group, which made them start acting odd and secretive. He only found out later, that four of the five students; Henry, Camilla, Charles and Francis - had accidentally killed a man one night.
