Summary: Essay discuss Armstrong Sperry's "Call It Courage", which is about a young kid who is afraid of the ocean because his mother died in the ocean. He gets courage and sails out to new land. "Call It Courage" is a very good book to study Polynesian beliefs and customs.
A boy named matafu lived in hikerua a small island. When matafu was three years old it was hurricane season and no one went out to sea. Matafu mother knew that u is not supposed to go out to sea but she still wanted to go out. The other men told her not to but she didn't hear them so she took matafu out to sea with her. The hurricane hit them and his mother died but matafu didn't. Some men picked the dead mother and the whimpering child. Matafu's father was tahana Hui the chief. Since that day matafu was scared of the sea he thought Maui the sea god took his mother and would soon take him. Matafu would make the nets, knifes and everything the others boys needed to go out to sea. All the boys' fathers would tell them that they were very proud...
