Summary: Chapter summaries of the book Anthem.
Chapter 1

Equality 7-2521, the main character, explains how it is a sin to write down his thoughts on paper. He explains how it is a `transgression' that is worse than any other. Throughout most of the book, Equality 7-2521 replaces `I' and `my' with `we' and `our.' This is because it is a sin to think or act individually. According to the laws of where he lives; it is a sin to be alone. He has committed many sins by working alone, and grieves his mistake through most of the preliminary chapters. Equality is 21 years old at 6-feet tall. He is harassed and called a burden by his teachers for this `abnormality.'
