Teenage Voting
Summary: Reasoning through poor turnout in teenage voting.
According to rights given in the 26th amendment to the U.S. Constitution, teenagers of the ages of 18 - 20 have been given the right to vote. Even though this provides these people with the opportunity to express their freedom and have great influence on their environment, they have historically exercised this right less than any other group in American society. I believe some of the reasons for this voter indifference may pertain to the fact that teenagers aren't particularly interested in the workings of the government and that politicians don't do enough to get these young people involved. Most teens feel that their contribution will not make much of a difference at all. A couple of ways to improve young voter participation would be to hold youth rallies and to address issues that directly pertain to this minority of an audience.
